Dear
Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Our parish has been blessed with a spirit of community and cooperation
that reaches out from our worship together to enrich our
lives seven days a week make us into a living sign of God's presence.
With the wholehearted efforts of many people, we are building our life
together as a parish and reaching out to touch the lives of those around
us. A list
of those active in the parish shows many ways in which we share God's
love, and if you are not already participating in one of these groups,
let me assure you that you would find the experience very rewarding.
Providing food to the poor, delivering meals to the homebound; bringing
communion to the sick, and meeting daily to pray the rosary are just a
few of the ways in which our parishioners join in good works and
fellowship.
I welcome all of you to the parish and I wish you every blessing Our
Lord can provide.
Sincerely in Christ
Reverend James J. Brady

Ministries &
Services
The ministries and
organizations of St. Dominic Church continually strive to be of service to
both our parish and our community. We have a strong desire to spread the
"Good News of God" by our commitments to our church and to
others. To make this happen we need the time and talents of many
parishioners. Each ministry and organization plays an important role in
making up the community that is St. Dominic Church.
Journeying with a
particular faith community is fundamentally voluntary. There is no
compulsion to choose this way of life or this parish. There must be a
reason, then, why freely and without compulsion you are seeking to join
our community. We presume that you are accordingly motivated by a desire
both to give to and to receive from this community .
We therefore welcome
your participation in our ministries and organizations. We ask that you
enter into a covenant with us -that most solemn contract of mutuality
.concern and shared responsibility .There is no requirement to be perfect
or without sin: only the promise to be faithful, to worship regularly and
to make some commitment of Christian service, however temporary, as
described in this parish handbook.

The
Story of Saint Dominic de Guzman
Nobly born in Spain about the year 1170, Dominic de Guzman was reared in
an atmosphere of sanctity. He was favored with a worthy father, Felix de
Guzman, mothered by Blessed Joanna of Aza, and surrounded by two brothers
known for their extraordinary holiness. As a young man, by his
unwearied diligence, he became a model and learned student.
The
date of his ordination is unclear. but the turning point of his life came
about 1206 when the Diego, Bishop of Osma, became the unofficial leader of
a Papal mission to the heretical Albigensians. The Albigensians had
corupted the whole of the Southern Provinces of France. Convinced that
some one should preach the truth to this misguided people, he asked his
bishop for permission to begin missions among them.
St.
Dominic traveled from village to village teaching the truths of the Faith.
He was jeered, insulted and pelted with stones as he traveled along the
roads. He prayed to God in churches at night and hardly ever slept. St.
Dominic persevered in his mission of converting the Albigensians during
five years of bloody civil war, massacre and savagery.
In
1215, St. Dominic founded a new religious order, the Order of Preachers,
known as the Dominicans. About this time he also founded an order for
women and a third or Tertiary order for people living in the world (lay
people). St. Dominic's order was bound by vows with emphasis on poverty,
but devoted to the active work of preaching and teaching, anywhere and
everywhere.
The
origin of the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin is not certain but it has been
associated with St. Dominic, particularly of his preaching of the
mysteries of the Rosary - The Birth, The Death and the Resurection of
Jesus Christ.
With
a life of tireless effort and unusual sanctity in the service of God
behind him, Saint Dominic died in the year 1221, Pope Gregory IX canonized
him on July 13, 1234. Together we celebrate the feast of St. Dominick on
August 8th. |
